Narration is one of the most significant grammatical issues in English.

Narration is one of the most significant grammatical issues in English. No students can advance in the world of English language without knowing narration clearly. To know narration, a student has to learn tense, sentence, case, person and number at first.

The speech of anything is called narration.

Narration is of two kinds-                       My Youtube video on Narration

1)   Direct Speech

2)   Indirect Speech

Direct Speech: Ripon said to me, “I will go to Rajshahi tomorrow.”

Indirect Speech: Ripon said to me that he would go to Rajshahi the next day.

“said to” is changed into different words like below.

(1)   In case of Assertive Sentence,

told………that

For example:

He said to me, “I am ill.”

Þ    He told me that he was ill.

      (2) In case of Interrogative Sentence,

asked ………… if

For example:

She said to me, “Are you ill?”

Þ    She asked me if I was ill.

      (3) In case of Imperative Sentence,

ordered/advised/requested …………to

For example:

He said to me, “I am ill.”

Þ    He told me that he was ill.

      (4) In case of Optative Sentence,

wished/prayed for ………… that

For example:

Father said to her, “Go home at once.”

Þ    Father ordered her to go home at once.

      (5) In case of Exclamatory Sentence,

exclaimed with joy/exclaimed with sorrow………… that

For example:

The girl said to them, “How fine the bird is!”

Þ    The girl exclaimed with joy that the bird was very fine.
